Kingfisher Cabins sits on the banks of the Chown River in the quiet, family-friendly Tow Hill community — the edge of Naikoon Provincial Park, five minutes from Masset. The river holds a fall run of coho, the trees hold its namesake kingfishers, and the lawn hosts whitetail deer most mornings.

Your host Toni has been an island resident since 1972 and fished these waters commercially — ask about crabbing, clamming, fishing, and where the trail through the strawberry fields comes out.

Days here start slow and green — coffee on the porch while the Chown slides past — and end wide and blue on North Beach. In between: fern trails, June strawberries, crab pots, clam shovels, and a river that fills with coho when the alders turn.

The ferny trail

Across the road, a charming ten-minute trail climbs through a ferny thicket and crosses wild “strawberry fields forever” — June-bearing — before spilling you onto a panorama of sandy beach.

Miles of sandy beach run right across the road, and a short walk reaches the dual estuary of the Sangan and Chown rivers — trout and salmon runs, crabbing and clamming at your doorstep.

Wildlife at the door

Whitetail deer forage the grounds most days. Kingfishers, song sparrows and thrushes work the riverbanks; eagles, ravens and Canada geese pass over; and each fall the coho come home up the Chown.

Booking & deposit

A 50% deposit secures your reservation — e-transfer preferred, PayPal works too. Advance bookings have a 3-night minimum; for last-minute stays, just call or text Toni.

Check-in & house rules

Check-in from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am. Both cabins are no-smoking, and outdoor fires aren’t permitted — the barbecues on each porch have you covered.

Pets are welcome

Both cabins are pet friendly — $10 per pet per night (minimum $30). Bring their bed, blankie and dishes; keep them off the furniture and with you, and give them their morning run on the beach.

What to bring

House slippers, toiletries, and chargers for your devices — the cabins have power. Everything else, from dishes to linens, is already there.

Extra guests & kids

Rates cover two people; extra adults are $25/night and kids 12-and-under $10. At the Edenvale, extra guests can pitch a tent in the covered shed ($25–30/person, arranged at booking).

Stay a week

Settle in properly — weekly stays take 5% off. Fall visits line up with the coho run; June brings the wild strawberries along the beach trail.
